The UZI: A Compact and Revolutionary Submachine Gun
After World War II, Israel sought a new weapon to defend its borders. Major Uziel Gal designed a compact, cost-effective submachine gun made from sheet metal with improved ergonomics. Despite Gal's request not to name it after him, the weapon became known as the UZI.
Developed in the 1950s, the UZI replaced leftover WW2 SMGs with its modern telescoping bolt and magazine housed in the pistol grip, enhancing ergonomics. Adopted by the IDF in 1951, it saw action during the 1956 Suez Campaign. Early models featured a fixed wooden stock, later updated to a folding metal stock.
The Northeast UZI 60 CO2 Blowback Airsoft SMG is a faithful replica of the 1960s IDF UZI, featuring steel construction with a parkerized finish, polymer grips, and a detachable wooden stock. It replicates realistic functions, such as the grip safety and bolt mechanics, making it an authentic addition for enthusiasts. The magazine switch allows easy dry-fire toggling, and the semi-auto mode is snappy, with a realistic rate of fire. This is the first full-metal, full-size gas blowback airsoft UZI—a must-have for collectors.
