The Colt Navy 1851 was a percussion revolver chambered in .36 caliber, produced from 1851 by Colt’s Manufacturing. It became one of the most popular handguns of the 19th century and saw service in both the American Civil War and the Crimean War. Known for its robust construction, light weight, and accurate performance, it was favored by soldiers, officers, and civilians alike. It gained fame through figures like Wild Bill Hickok, who was said to have carried two Navy revolvers in a cross-draw style. Colt exported the revolver worldwide, and it remained in use well into the 1870s.
